The Ai Kahiko print shown here was inspired by the rich culture of the Hawaiian islands. Polynesian explorers from the Marquesas Islands first settled the Hawaiian islands around 400 CE. These highly skilled fishermen and farmers traveled over 2,000 miles by canoe to reach Hawaii's Big Island. The name Hawaii actually derives from the word Hawaii - a term from Polynesian mythology describing the original home of all Polynesians. These brave explorers were the only inhabitants of the islands for several hundreds years until Tahitians landed around 1000 CE.
